R+V: Introduction of the new content management system Magnolia

R+V introduces the content management system Magnolia as a central platform for all web areas. In close cooperation, Neofonie supported the insurance company in the migration of its online pages.

Challenge

New CMS for different editorial teams

R+V Versicherung manages numerous subject areas on its websites ruv.de and www.rv24.de as well as the websites of over 400 local general agencies. In order to replace the existing content management system and to facilitate the work of the various editorial teams, the company was looking for a future-proof CMS that is both client- and multisite-capable and meets the high quality, security and operational requirements in the finance and insurance industry. After an extensive CMS evaluation and consultation, R+V decided on the CMS Magnolia and commissioned Neofonie with the migration.

Solution

Smooth CMS Implementation

Since September 2020, one area after the next has been successively migrated to the new CMS Magnolia. In the course of the migration, the layout was also brought up to date. Neofonie integrated the Magnolia CMS into the existing system landscape and transferred or re-implemented the layouts and functions of all R+V websites 1:1 into the new CMS.

The new Magnolia CMS thus offers R+V a uniform editorial system, a wide range of expansion options and, above all, a secure system to ensure effective and smooth collaboration between the various departments and corporate divisions in the future.

Process

Structural Renewal of the ruv.de Website

The different areas of the R+V corporate website were unified and integrated into the new CMS. In the CMS backend, independent areas have been created for private customers, corporate customers, guides, press, careers, corporate content, MeineR+V and those of the almost 400 local general agencies, which are accessed separately by the various editorial teams. In addition, the particularly high security requirements in the financial sector have been implemented. As a result, the ruv.de website now achieves the top grade of A in the Security Headers Rating.

Process

Migration of Numerous Contents

To meet the quality requirements in the insurance environment, Magnolia was implemented in a highly available infrastructure and a deployment process was created across multiple test levels using Docker and Ansible.

For the transfer of both structured and unstructured content to the CMS, a partially automated migration was carried out. A dedicated migration team provided by Neofonie took over the transfer of any special cases of the existing websites. Especially existing editorial and functional content was reprogrammed. During a transition period, a mixed operation of the content management systems took place, so that the change of the underlying technology was not noticeable for end customers.

The new Magnolia CMS finally offers us a secure platform for all our websites and makes our editorial work easier thanks to clear structures and extension options.

Outcome

Simplification of editorial work

To simplify the editors’ work and give them a high degree of freedom in editing, basic components and functionalities were created across offers and divisions and are available as templates. Workflows were also set up for editorial processing by different departments and roles at R+V. Technical contacts and different editorial teams at R+V received training from Neofonie specifically tailored to their needs on how to use the new system and workflows. This ensured a smooth and rapid changeover of editorial work.

Outcome

Crisis-proof collaboration thanks to agility

Thanks to the agile approach with Scrum, the intensive collaboration could be seamlessly continued even during the onset of the Corona pandemic. Fixed contact persons and a well-established team worked together in close exchange with the R+V team and provided both technical and editorial support during the changeover. For R+V, the solution found opens up the possibility of bringing web projects online on a much larger scale and in much shorter cycles than before.

With Neofonie we have found a reliable Certified Magnolia Partner, with whom we were able to realize a successful move from various CMS systems and in-house developments to Magnolia and who continues to accompany us as a reliable implementation partner in designing a uniform technological content platform for the entire R+V.”
